Perhaps one of the greatest innovations in transportation is the development of connected and autonomous vehicles. In reaction to this new technology, UTRC2 organized the first annual Connected Vehicle Test-Bed Development & Integration Workshop held at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY on June 1, 2012 and the 2nd Connected and Self-driven Vehicles Symposium held at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ on June 17-18, 2013.

This unique summit will bring together leading experts, academics, practitioners, industry stakeholders and advocates to discuss the rapidly changing and expanding world of transportation technology innovative solutions. Presentations are welcome to explore how cutting-edge intelligent transportation systems, big data aggregation, and innovative transportation technology solutions promote efficiency, safety, security and sustainability goals, as well as the impact on broader inter-modal and multi-modal transportation considerations.

Professor Susan Shaheen of the University of California, Berkeley will explore innovation and disruption in urban mobility. There have been many new forms of mobility emerging in the urban transportation environment. This has led to increased traveler choice and controversy among the new entrants and existing service providers.

Urban transportation systems are being challenged by the multiplicity of providers and complexity of the journey. Simply stated it’s gotten a lot more complicated to get around major cities. We are seeing attempts to address these problems by public providers as well as App developers but so far they all fall short of solving the problem. In this seminar we will see a vision of connected urban mobility that addresses the problems and is within our grasp.
