Amjad J. Aref holds a Ph.D. degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1997. He has been on the faculty of the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo since 1997.

Aref has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in structural analysis, structural mechanics and computations, numerical methods, and advanced materials. Dr. Aref has research interests in Fiber-reinforced polymeric (FRP) materials applications in structural engineering, multi-physics problems of blast and high velocity impacts, earthquake engineering, and computational mechanics
