AITE Scholarships

The Advanced Institute for Transportation Education (AITE) coordinates UTRC educational activities. AITE’s purpose is to increase the knowledge and capabilities of transportation professional through education in transportation and related fields. A major part of the AITE program is providing scholarships to young people, both those that are just starting their careers and those who are already working in the transportation field who want to increase their knowledge and skills. The Graduate Scholarship Program is a major part of the AITE Program.

AITE Graduate Scholars Program Description

Financial support up to a value of 25,000 dollars is available for outstanding Masters students in transportation programs at one of the six participating universities. Scholarships are available both to people entering the transportation field for the first time and to people already working for transportation agencies and companies. The scholarship provides:

For full time students:
  • Free tuition for three semesters or up to a value of 25,000 dollars
  • Monthly stipend for one year (total value not more than 25,000 dollars)
  • Experience in transportation research
For employees of participating agencies:
  • Free tuition for four semesters or up to a value of 25,000 dollars
  • Ten hour per week paid work release during semester at participating Agencies.

Note that this is a matching program. UTRC provides up to 25,000 dollars to be matched by either the university or the participating transportation agency. As a result the details differ depending on the school.

Application Requirements
  • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree (recommended grade point average of 2.7 or better).
  • The applicant must be admitted as a matriculated student to one of the participating universities.
How to Apply
  • Create a Student account on our online system. Once your account is activated, sign in, and you will find links to the application where you will complete the forms and upload your supporting documentation.

AITE Scholarship Requirements
  • The scholar must attend graduate school on a full time basis.
  • The scholar must complete the AITE curriculum with a 3.0 GPA.
  • The scholar must complete a project.
  • For full time students - The scholar must participate in an approved research project.
Basis for Awards
  • Grade point average in previous degree(s)
  • Communication skills in English
  • Dedication to and interest in a transportation career
  • Support from employer for applicants currently working in transportation
