Evaluation Study of the Port Authority of NY and NJ's Value Pricing Initiative

On January 25, 2001, the PANYNJ approved a new pricing structure with tolls that varied according to time of day and payment technology. It went into effect on March 25, 2001. The PANYNJ saw the plan as a means for reducing congestion, increasing the use of transit and EZPass, and facilitating commercial traffic control management. The main objective of this project is to monitor the impacts of the time of day pricing initiative, both at the system wide level and at the user level.

Analysis of Capital Cost Elements and Their Effect on Operating Costs

Rising light rail capital costs are a significant concern for the Federal Transit Administration and for its partner agencies at the local level. The report discusses three distinct types of cost growth: cost overruns, unit cost escalation, and project escalation. Specific factors that push costs higher include lack of in-house expertise, regulatory mandates, poor or non-existent competition among vendors, and the use of custom designs.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Operational Support Contracts

ITS is a tool to improve and mange the transportation network effectively to meet growing demands for services. The Transportation Operation Center (TOC) is the heart of the ITS activities. The investment made on technology, infrastructure, and people all come together under the TOC operation, and maintaining efficiency of the TOC operation at peak-Level is the main goal. ITS operational support also has an added meaning of Traffic Signals Systems hardware (including loop detectors) and software components. These activities are key in the NJDOT programs.

Development of Smart Bridge Bearing Systems

This research critically reviews and analyzes various cost-effective (existing as well as emerging) sensing techniques for use in smart bridge bearings. These sensing technologies were reviewed on the basis of cost-effectiveness, implementability, maintenance, technical expertise required for acquisition and analysis of data, and reliability of the technology in field conditions. The central focus of the research was to identify technologies that are cost-effective, low maintenance and robust for field conditions.

Part 3: SUNY-ESF Right-of-Way Vegetation Management Program Assessment

Performance standards for Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) can be used to define organizations that manage rights-of-way (ROWs) in environmentally-appropriate, socially-beneficial, and economically-viable manners. Environmentally appropriate ROW vegetation management means maintaining biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes. Socially beneficial management means helping local people and society at large enjoy long-term benefits.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) DIRECTOR REGION 2 Operational Support Contracts Implementation Plan

<p>The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is currently facing a significant challenge in keeping Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) at a high level of availability at the Transportation Operation Center North (TOC North) and Transportation Operation Center South (TOC South). As more and more components are added to the ITS infrastructure, system administration, system management and system operational support become very critical for TOCs. This project was initiated to review current issues facing NJDOT and investigate practices of the other states?
